Sustainable Urban Development

Sudridh-NURP supports municipalities in improved planning, implementation and management of green, resilient and inclusive infrastructure. One of the major interventions is the design of Risk and Inclusion Sensitive Land Use Plan (RISLUP) for the three municipalities which have been prepared with a collaborative, participatory approach involving all relevant stakeholders – municipal staff, engineers, architects, and planners. NURP also supports initiatives for municipal sanitation, waste management and disaster risk management, along with asset management – proper record-keeping and maintenance of existing resources. In Janakpurdham and Pokhara, we helped develop building bye-laws, which together with the RISLUP act as a guiding document for planners and engineers of the municipalities to ensure that urban growth is more sustainable, resilient and inclusive.

Apart from these interventions, we have planned projects specific to each municipality, such as developing an urban design for the revitalisation of the historic Batauli Bazar in Butwal and preparing pond conservation guidelines and a masterplan for the redevelopment of Ratna Sagar Pond Area in Janakpurdham. In Pokhara, we have conducted a study on the causes of flooding in the Kamal Pokhari, also suggesting prevention and mitigation measures.
